Del Valle is committed to the success of our special needs learners.
This commitment is based on the belief that special education is a service not a place. Student’s individual needs determine the services the student receives. Student placement is not based on disability or “label” but determined by the students needs as determined by their Individual Education Plan (IEP) team.
The students IEP team makes decisions including location of services, length of services, and related services through IEP meetings that are held at least annually. The IEP team follows a specific sequence that begins with the student’s curricular needs followed by a consideration of the student’s type and level of support.
The sequence of decision follows the Least Restrictive Environment provisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and ensures that all options are carefully considered and students are properly placed.
